Persuasive Writing and Speaking

Do you have good communication skills? Do you want to have great communication skills? What makes these skills great? Persuasion. Knowing what to say and how to say it can turn a “no” or “maybe” into a “sure” or “certainly”. You can also improve employee motivation with a persuasive writing / speaking style. An example of three types of writing of the same comment.

Fact: It’s too late to do anything about it.
Strengthening: Actually, it’s far too late to do anything about it at all.
Softening: Actually, it’s a little late to do anything about it just now.

You can communicate figures differently too:

Fact: We did $67,900 in sales this quarter.
Strengthening: We did just under $70,000 in sales just in this quarter.
Softening: We didn’t quite make $70,000 in sales this quarter.

All three sentences mean the same, but for the listener, each sentence has a different tone and nuance. So, have fun with English and make your speaking and writing mean more than just words.
