Some of my students are practicing their English skills to take the IELTS exam and lack confidence. These same students are getting more anxious every day. My students and I look at test preparation differently:

I view every class, every sentence, and every new word as an improvement; improvement for the test and for daily life. Every step forward should build confidence.

Some students may feel the opposite. They may feel that every time they try to prepare they find out more of what they do not know and as a result, their confidence goes down.

It is all in the way students see preparation – even if students find out that they do not know vocabulary, they now know what they need to know and can focus study.

The conclusion is students need confidence – and not knowing something should increase confidence so students can be better prepared. Let’s move forward, and leave the lack of confidence behind.
