It seems that last week’s reoccurring theme was to “think outside the box.” I heard the term from a variety of leaders instilling the benefits to move forward. Then, I confront reality when a faced a hurdle in doing what should be a routine task, sharing a file in OneDrive let’s say. It appears that this simple task was revolutionary for IT. I was simply trying to share a file globally. I wasn’t thinking outside of my box but I was asking IT to apparently think outside of theirs. “No body does this.” I was told.
Then I asked myself, “Just how small or large is the box we begin with?” Taking leadership courses I find myself shifting my perspective the Other. Okay, it apparently is out of their comfort zone so I have to work with that. Unfortunately, I got frustrated with the conversation and gave up being able to share files in OneDrive.
I don’t have a lesson here, or any words of wisdom, I’m just asking you to reflect on how big a box are you working in and how can you increase the size of your box? It could be as big as the universe! Something to reflect on anyway…
