Consider how much energy you use when studying being that a single ChatGPT query consumes around 2.9 watt-hours (Wh), while a Google search uses approximately 0.3 Wh, making ChatGPT about 10 times more energy-intensive per query (The Wall Street Journal, July 2024). It is only human nature to take the path of least resistance and a simple query is that path while one comprehensive research will burn around 3 Wh. We need to do comprehensive research these days to ensure that we are balanced in our opinions and therefore producing balanced output.
Make sure you have enough sleep, keep your engine tuned up, and feed it premium fuel so it has the watt hours needed to do comprehensive and well-balanced research before you begin producing and sharing opinions with your audience. Eating well isn’t a luxury. It is the best investment in your present and future self. The alternative is a simple low-level near 0 watt hour reactionary opinion that can continue to build on a story that begins as inaccurate and ends up as malicious and harmful to one person or a whole group of people.
Take ChatGPT’s word for it – thinking things through is much more demanding of our resources but it leads to more balanced, accurate, and well thought out results.
