“Truth” to Connect Us or to Represent Reality?

I have had a shift in paradigm, a fundamental shift in the way I view the world thanks again to BY Yuval Noah Harari. In his book Nexus (2024) he writes:

To conclude, information sometimes represents reality, and sometimes doesn’t. But it always connects. This is its fundamental characteristic. Therefore, when examining the role of information in history, although it sometimes makes sense to ask “How well does it represent reality? Is it true or false?” often the more crucial questions are “How well does it connect people? What new network does it create?”

How does that resonate with you? Think about it. Look around you and see how many “truths” around you my not be truth representation of the world but a way to connect people. Currency is one truth that comes to mind that is meant to connect people rather than be a representation of the world. How can a piece of paper with a “100” printed on it by a tank of gas? We all believe it can so we are connected by that truth. Any other piece of paper with a “100” printed on it would mean jail time, and that is another connective piece of information that we call truth.

My call to action is to think about what truths around you connect us rather than represent the world truthfully and does it really matter whether it is a fact as long as it unites and creates harmony. Of course, remain diligent and skeptical when knowing the facts will prevent you from being scammed or having your identity stolen.
