AI Chatbots and your Cognitive Muscle Deterioration

Inevitably you have at least played with ChatGPT or other AI chatbots such as the awesome perplexity.ai. Step back and assess your ability to come up with ideas, or even your desire to come up with ideas. Why think of ideas when AI can do it for me. Assess your level of creativity to where you remember it to be. Do you see a noticeable decline in your cognitive muscle?

I offer no research here to back up my assertion, just personal experience. When thinking of a fresh blog topic my first though was, “Why not ask ChatGPT to do it for me? Let’s see what it comes up with.” I did and I now have some ideas. No thinking involved, no cognitive muscle needed. Here’s the list it came up with when asking, “What topics should the website https://hkkseducation.com/ blog about?”:

The website https://hkkseducation.com/ seems to focus on education. Topics for their blog could include:

  1. Study tips and techniques
  2. Education technology trends
  3. Career advice for students
  4. Education policy updates
  5. Parenting tips related to education
  6. Interviews with educators or industry professionals
  7. Student mental health and well-being
  8. Exam preparation strategies
  9. Global education news
  10. Personal growth and development tips for students

These are just a few ideas to get started! It’s essential to tailor the blog topics to the website’s target audience and goals.

There is a caveat, “These are just a few ideas to get started! It’s essential to tailor the blog topics to the website’s target audience and goals”, but I can either do as ChatGPT recommends or just run with one of these idea. I can make any of these work and fill a blog.

These topics are based on pos secondary education, I want to extend my focus to training, specifically on the trades. When I asked ChatGPT about trades it just added “in trades training” at the end of each sentence. Hardly critical thinking.

It’s a starting point, but what if topic #11 is the golden topic? That is the topic I have to come up with myself. Or, maybe not. ChatGPT, “What are 100 topics that the website https://hkkseducation.com/ blog about?” Now we have some gems. Bye bye creative thinking and hello something ot creative thinking (laziness?).

I started this blog trying to convince you (and me) not to rely to heavily on AI to retain our cognitive creative thinking muscle, but I failed. At the end I conclude: Use your creative thinking skills to ask ChatGPT the right questions and let it do all the heavy lifting.
